USD 483: Three Communities, One Mustang Family

USD 483 is made up of three welcoming communities Plains in Meade County, and Kismet and Hayne in Seward County. Together, these towns create a unified, student-centered district that serves families from early childhood through high school, including many who live in the surrounding rural areas. The district also welcomes students who choose to attend from Liberal, adding to the diverse and close-knit Mustang community. Its a place where small-town values, strong relationships, and community pride come together to support every learner.

Elementary Schools

Kismet Elementary provides a warm and engaging start for students from preschool through 2nd grade, building the foundation for lifelong learning. Plains Elementary continues that journey for 3rd through 5th graders, offering a supportive environment where students grow academically and socially.

Junior High & High School

Southwestern Heights Junior High and High School, located south of Highway 54 between Plains and Kismet, offers a wide range of athletics and activities that help students learn teamwork, leadership, and school pride. Junior High and High School students can participate in volleyball, football, cross country, cheer, basketball, and track. High School athletes also have the opportunity to compete in baseball and softball. Esports is available at the High School level and is newly offered to Junior High students as well.

Activities & Organizations

Beyond athletics, students can get involved in a variety of clubs and organizations, including FCCLA, FFA, National Honor Society, Scholars Bowl, and several other groups that encourage personal growth, community involvement, and academic excellence.

A Community That Supports Every Student

USD 483 is known for its school spirit, dedicated staff, and strong community involvement.
